“Christis” is an online version of the University of York’s Christian Magazine. However, although it is based from the University of York most of the articles would apply to anyone. Being a university-based magazine, most of the articles are geared towards young people and university students in particular. I found this to be one of the strong points – the articles are easy to read, approachable, and practical.
What I like about the articles is the range of topics they cover. For example, at the time of writing the current issue contained articles about a variety of topics such as an interview with Joseph Chalmers; an article about the next archbishop; about Christian and secular dance music; and “Loving Yourself”: a balance of “current affairs” and teaching. Not all the articles are written by Christis members – there is a facility to submit an article for possible inclusion in a future edition of the magazine.
One thing that I do think could be possibly improved upon is discussion: at the time of writing, if you wish to comment on an article the only way is to send a letter to the editor for possible inclusion in the next issue’s “letters” section. I personally would prefer to see a discussion forum, where comments can be made more immediately and responded to quickly. However, this is a minor point – it is no detriment to the site’s quality.
Also online is the archive of all previous magazines since (at the time of writing) issue 32 – some 45 issues to read through! If you wish, you can also elect to subscribe to the “hard copy” of the magazine to your home address for a small fee.
The layout, whilst being a little basic, is in general clear and well-presented. Navigating the issues is easy, and the inclusion of a “search” function means it’s easy to find something if you know exactly what you’re looking for!
Overall, the site is well presented and clear; with some good well-written articles that are useful to the young Christian. I highly recommended this site.
Crossring is a community of Christians who meet together online in fellowship around the Christian faith and the Bible.
As part of our active lifestyle of prayer and Bible reading, we are currently reading a small section of the Bible together each day and sharing our responses to it with each other. We also publish a short devotional thought on a key verse or two from each day's passage to prompt prayer or reflection.
