The Phatfish – Nothing But The Truth CD was in good company when I found it in my Christmas stocking, sitting beside Matt Redman’s – Where Angels Fear To Tread and Martyn Layzell’s debut album – Lost In Wonder, I wondered how it would compare. I have to confess that I didn’t know much about Phatfish at the time, the rave reviews of Heavenbound, an earlier album of theirs, spoke for themselves, but I had never got around to buying a copy.
The cover was simple, the song titles were interesting, so I placed the CD into my stereo with an open mind. I was amazed!
The music itself is great, catchy tunes full of emotion, and rocky undertones to keep any guitar fan happy! The thing that struck me though was not the music, but the lyrics. The devotion to and the love for God are apparent, and many songs based on Scripture makes this one to think about as well as to simply listen and enjoy.
Not forgetting the wonderful contributions of the rest of the band, Louise Fellingham’s voice is a joy to listen to. She’s been blessed with a talent to sing with power, emotion and praise in the slow ones, but can also turn on the harder, heavier tones for other tracks.
This is just the kind of music I love to listen to, and also the kind of music that helps me connect with God through worship. I can’t really fault it!
Some great music with lyrics full of the Word of God, and some funky guitar licks to boot! This is one of the best albums I’ve heard in ages! And now I’m off to buy Heavenbound, watch this space, another review may be on its way!
